This will be a mapped trail ride around the AOPF property where along the way you will encounter an unlucky “Baker’s Dozen” of 13 obstacles designed to demonstrate the connection, communication and trust between you and your horse. The obstacles will have an Autumn theme but some may involve lingering Halloween goblins. You will have 60 seconds to complete each obstacle and your execution of each will be scored between 0 and 10, with 0 being a failure to navigate the obstacle and 10 being perfect execution. Awards will be based on your total score out of a possible 130. The “twist” for this ride is that we will have stewards available to answer questions or explain directions but each rider will serve as their own judge. You will compete only against yourself and your own standards at this ride!
Cost is $50 per horse and rider pair for AOPF boarded horses + a $15 fee for those who haul in.
Riders can go alone or in groups of up to 4. Please list your preferred riding partner/s on the registration form. Teams will depart allowing a 4 minute interval for each horse and rider. Preferred rides times requested on the registration form will be assigned on a first come-first served basis and nearest available after that. Please be sure at least one person on your team has a stop watch or a phone with 1 minute timer function.
The first riders will depart at 12:00 Noon, to hopefully allow for some mid-day warming, but the event will be held rain or shine and regardless of weather so get yer ponies “slicker broke” and bundle up as needed.
The course will include some places where teams may cross the path of others so please ride with caution and courtesy, especially if traveling faster than a walk. Likewise, if your team is taking it slow, please yield the trail and allow faster teams to “play through”.
A course map with instructions, scoring criteria and a score card will be provided when you check in the day of the ride.
Please contact Barry Dornon by phone or text to 765-891-1459 or email to: bdornon62@gmail.com with questions.
The ride is limited to 30 horse and rider pairs. Registration the day of the ride will only be allowed up to capacity of 30.
Allowing that the weather may, or may not, be ideal for a trail ride we will have hot cider and coco and treats and snacks in the warm AOPF tack room beginning at 2:00. All participants as well as friends, family and supporters are welcome but bringing a treat to share will be appreciated.
